2. Market overview
Demand stayed weak and new-cycle restocking was still being worked out, with all links of the chain watching. Terminal buyers mainly absorbed existing inventory and bought only sporadically. Safety and environmental inspections in some regions led to more output cuts and maintenance, keeping operating rates at a phase low, yet ample industry capacity and fierce price competition weighed heavily on the market. Feedstock prices moved narrowly and most products ran at cost level.
Of the more than 100 products tracked, 67% fell, 9% were unchanged and 24% rose year on year; month on month, 40% fell, 54% were unchanged and 6% rose.
